Annotation – Amelia Earhart and Eleanor Roosevelt really did go together for a plane ride in 1933. Perhaps they even decided to race through Washington, D.C. in Eleanor’s roadster afterwards.

Media – Graphite pencil and colored pencil. The display type was hand lettered by Paul Colin with a Brian Selznick design.

Rating – 4 quality of text and 5 quality of illustration – 3 popularity

Curricular Connection – The melding of the text with the immaculate illustrations makes this book a must use in the classroom history unit. Studying the American Depression can be quite challenging and this book would certainly help weary students understand that people still had aspirations and hope during those difficult years.
