Activities:
Session1
Read aloud Gone Wild or even better, project Gone Wild with video projector noting the major elements of each page: Letter art of each animal, scientific name, drawing of each animal, habitat, range, threats, status. Go over definitions of critically endangered, endangered, and vulnerable. Demonstrate how to create citations with Noodlebib.
Homework Assignment: Find endangered animal sites helpful for this project. Check out the webpage published with websites. Submit new websites to the comment box posted on the webpage. Select 3 animals that you would like to learn more about.
Session 2
Choose an endangered animal to research. Post on the chart and see if there are any duplications. If so, talk with the person who also chose the same animal and see if you or the other person is willing to choose another. Review the major elements you should cover in your research.
Review how to make a Photostory slideshow. For this project everyone will be making two slides. One will be the letter art of the animal and one will be an actual photograph of the animal.
Begin drawing a black and white letter for the chosen animal. Take it home to complete for next session.
Session 3
Labwork: Research online and use books in the library after using the online catalog to locate them. Detail facts for the slides using the elements from the book as a guide. Complete at home to be ready to record next session. Also record citations for research. Scan letterart to prepare the first slide and enter into the PhotoStory slideshow. Locate an animal photo using Google Images and save to the endangered animal photo folder on the shared drive.
Session 4
Labwork: Add animal picture to the slideshow. Record fact details onto the PhotoStory slides per animal storyboard.
Session 5
Review slideshow and make finalizing edits to complete the ABC Slideshow. Publish to website.
