Personification: There are few examples of verbal personification in Hammer of the Gods. The clearest is near the beginning of the book; “The lights in the night sky are the eyes of the gods. Yet they must be blind to the torments of human suffering.” However, the basis for the plot is the loss of life to Thorr’s hammer. This item is not actually alive, but with it’s powers drained, it is often referred to as dead, and it is not until Modi gives up his soul (which is actually the “life” of the hammer), that the hammer awakens and reaches it’s full potential once more.
