Heroes, Volume 1, by Aron Eli Coleite et al. Published DC Comics, 2006.

Summary: A series of vignettes and longer stories set in the universe of the Heroes television show.

Analysis: I've never seen Heroes, but now it's going to the top of the Netflix list! The first few short stories were confusing, since I wasn't familiar with the show, but once the setting and characters were established, I didn't have any trouble following it. I like this as a contrast to Astro City, since this is more the science-fiction end of the superhero genre while Astro City is the fantasy end, yet both take the standard superhero tropes and do very interesting things with them.

Illustrations: Digitally-colored comics with a lot of interesting "camera" angles, no doubt inspired by the TV show.

Rating: 5Q/5P

Curricular Connections: The characters make a lot of complex ethical decisions, which could be a good jumping-off point for a 11th or 12th grade discussion.
