Tea with Milk by Allen Say. NY, NY: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1999. ISBN: 0-395-90495-1. Q5/4P.
This picture book follows the life of a young Californian. Her parents are from Japan and decide the family will move back and that May will marry and follow Japanese customs but May has plans of her own. This struggle to find ones own way would resonate with middle school students, and would be appropriate as a coming of age text in an English or Asian Studies course.
